Creating luxury bedding ensembles is essential in allowing your bedroom to serve as your personal private sanctuary. But where do you begin?
If you want to maximize your bedroom’s appeal, considering the following ideas for creating luxury bedding ensembles.
White is Foolproof
A classic formula for creating luxury bedding ensembles is to start with a white duvet cover. The simple, clean look of white never goes out of style while also providing you with plenty of flexibility to build off of.
For example, you can pair a white duvet with mix of patterned and solid pillows in various shades of gray and black. You can also add some simple pops of color using pillows by opting for just two pillows – one a solid and one a graphic. If you really want to step it up, matching these throw pillows to a rug can create a cohesive effect that welcoming and memorable.
And if pillows are not in your preferred bedroom design toolkit, you can also leverage other elements around the room. Pairing the white duvet with your choice in headboards or wallpaper or even decorative items around the room can help deliver a stunning presentation.
Mix In Colors
While using white is a more classic approach to luxury bedding ensembles, it is by no means your only option when creating. It can be incredibly effective to to mix linens using color. By pairing a striped sheet with a patterned spread, you can accomplish something visually different while still evoking a sense of luxury.
Or you can consider implementing a linear stripe on stripe design pattern. Through the thoughtful use of different stripe colors and thicknesses, you can pair patterns that can create a sense of romance and comfort.
If you are just starting out with trying to learn how to mix, consider beginning with a varied scale. When we mean by this is working in pairs that scale down in size. For example, consider implementing a pair of Euro shams that are followed by a pair of queen shames, that progress to a pair of bolsters before ending with an accompanying accent pillow. This is the perfect formula for those who absolutely love pillows despite the hassle they can also bring to the table.
While there are traditional pillow techniques for creating luxury bedding ensembles, you can (and should) feel free to embark down a path all your own. So if piling the pillows is your preferred presentation or a simple stack of larger to smaller is more fitting, then design at will.
While many a designer will preach to you about the necessity of finding the function in the design, it your home and your bedroom; if you like it then that counts for something!
When creating your luxury bedding ensembles, there are numerous paths you can take. You can focus solely on the bedding or pair with the room’s rug or even the wallpaper. Whatever approach you take to your luxury bedding ensembles, just be sure that it fits you and your style. After all, you are the one who will sleep in there every night!
You do not, however, have to follow a classic path. Feel perfectly free to just pile on the pillows you love. And don’t let anyone berate you about function. It is your home, and if you don’t mind messing with pillows, that is your privilege — with the caveat that if this is a guest room, you may want to put some pillows away when guests arrive, just to make them more at ease.
Another pillow option is to simply stack them up, larger to smaller. It makes for rather a neatnik look, and if your partner — like mine — sleeps with pillows crammed everywhere, this approach can give all those pillows a home.
An addition that always steps up the comfort in a bedroom is a second duvet (or blanket or quilt) folded or thrown over the end of the bed. In this case the mix is both surprising and engaging. I don’t know if the painting over the bed was the chicken or the egg, but the color of the throw clearly acknowledges its blue, while the zebra bench at the end is the equivalent of the fat lady singing. It’s the touch that says, “We’re done!” Not a thing really matches, but everything seductively harmonizes.
