Floral

Having something with floral print is rising in popularity.  The brighter the better.  Typically these designs are eye-catching and use colors that pop.  They are wonderful accent pieces.  It will add a flair to the room and make any bland room a bit more exciting.  These prints are not only for pillows or furniture; Napa homeowners can even use them on curtains!

Floors That Stand Out

In the past, a statement wall had become popular.  This involves setting aside one wall to be painted a different color or design from the rest.  As this trend is getting stale having a statement floor is just starting to be a favorite.  

Using patterns on the floor that are not typically seen can add interest to any room.  These floors are not limited to the typical softer colors.  Add in bold colors for a more dramatic effect.

These floors are becoming very popular in homes with smaller rooms.  It can be hard to decorate a small room to make it more aesthetically pleasing without making it feel cluttered.  By adding color and designs to the floor there is no clutter, but there is still a statement piece.

Cabinets That Are Softer in Color

The time for bold dark cabinets is over.  The dramatic look of a dark wood has been overdone.  Instead, designers are gravitating towards lighter cabinet colors.  Light wood colors to medium colors look great paired with a darker floor.  

Many cabinet doors are being designed to have a flat appearance.  The lack of a handle gives the cabinets a cleaner look  Solid doors are not always preferred.  Instead, some doors have slits in them that allow some of the items to be viewed.

Warm Colors

To help balance the look of bold floors and floral prints, warm colors will be more present in décor items.  Using reds, browns, and beige is going to be seen not only in décor, but on walls, and even in pieces of art.

Matte

For a while, it was popular to have shiny silver appliances.  People are gravitating to a more warm approach to appliances now.  The matte finish on appliances takes away the coldness that a shiny finish emits. This can give the whole kitchen a more comforting look.

What to Leave Behind

As we enter 2018 there are trends that are quickly losing their appeal.  All white kitchens were a popular design choice because they look spectacular in pictures.  However, they are difficult to keep clean.  Kitchens with more color are going to be much more common.

Having a bar cart in the kitchen or dining room was becoming a staple in anyone’s home that entertained.  These carts look nice, but in reality, they just take up space when not in use.  Most people do not entertain enough to need an entire cart dedicated to it.  Swap out the bar cart and try out a coffee bar.  It is something that is much more likely to be used on a day to day basis.

To sell a house quickly a Napa homeowner must appeal to what people want.  Following design trends can help to appeal to buyers who are following these trends.  Keeping outdated trends can ruin a homeowner’s chances of making a sale.  Keeping up to date with design trends is not only needed but it can be fun!
